In the UK and Ireland Boxing Day is a bank holiday, following Christmas Day, on December 26. It is characterised by shopping fever and great bargains. Amazon.co.uk brought Boxing Day Deals Week to its customers for the first time in 2011, with a week of great offers on products including Digital SLR cameras, TVs, cookware, DVDs and more.

There are a number of theories about where the name "Boxing Day" came from. The most common explanation is quite simply that a 'Christmas Box' in the UK refers to a Christmas present. Tradesmen traditionally collected Christmas boxes on December 26 in return for their service throughout the year.
