Cita:Peter Jackson's 1996 horror/comedy film The Frighteners has been announced for Blu-ray by Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The release will mark the 15th anniversary of the film and include Peter Jackson's director's cut, which adds an additional 23 minutes to the runtime.
The Frighteners stars Michael J. Fox in his last headlining role as a small-town ghostbuster who is friends with the spirits he is supposed to be exercising. While not a financial success, the film did feature impressive early work from Jackson's special effects house, Weta Digital.
The cover art is worth noting since it differs from the demonic face seen in the theatrical poster and DVD/HDDVD releases. Jackson has stated that the image did not accurately portray the film's content and attributes the marketing campaign as one of the reasons why the film was not a box office success.
As of now, it looks like the release has simply brought over many of the special features from the 2005 Director's Cut DVD. Special features for The Frighteners Blu-ray will include:
Peter Jackson's 10th Anniversary Intro
The Making of The Frighteners
Feature Commentary with Director Peter Jackson
Storyboards
My Scenes
Pocket BLU
Additionally, the film will be presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Look for the The Frighteners: 15th Anniversary Edition to hit streets on September 13th with a SRP of $26.99. Pre-orders are now up on Amazon.
