Some minor gripes: the film's original aspect ratio is 1.66:1, so it will be presumably over-matted on top and bottom to create the 1.85:1 ratio theaters like so much. And unfortunately, it looks like the terrific Robert-Guillaume "Making Of" documentary from the laserdisc will not be included. Let's just hope the theatrical cut is the REAL theatrical cut, and not the IMAX cut. Also, no mention of theatrical trailers, which have been noticeably missing from many recent Disney DVDs. One hopes for a Publicity section similar to past Platinum and Collector's Edition DVDs.
BestBuy.com is running a special promotion, where if you buy The Lion King and select other Disney DVDs, you get a special discount. Read more. The Lion King is also now up for pre-order at Amazon.com for $19.49. Retail price is $29.99, and release date is October 7. [/img]
