Walt Disney Treasures --- Wave 4

Aunque ya se rumoraban desde hace tiempo, el productor de los "Treasures" comentó cuales serán los sets del wave 4:

-Mickey Mouse in B&W 2
-True Life Adventures
-The Complete Pluto
-Mickey Mouse Club (season 1)

Se supone que serán lanzados en Diciembre del 2004, a pesar del retraso del Wave 3

Hehehe, bienvenido al Foro Luis, y pues si, entiendo que quieres tener la colección al 100%, pero esos del True Life y del Club de Mickey Mouse no se me antojan, yo al igual que artur voy más sobre la animación

veamos.... en las mañanas Disney por aquí en un canal de TV pasaron muchas Sinfonías Tontas, Mickey a colores, Donald, Pluto y Tribilín.... imagino que es cuestión de esperar nomás..... las que están en blanco y negro nunca las pasaron... por eso perdí las esperanzas....

Ya salió el comunicado de prensa de los 3 sets... el de Mickey Mouse va a traer todos los cortos que faltan en B&N (inclusive los muy controversiales por tener estereotipos negros), el de Pluto se ve bastante pinche, con 24 cortos??? el set de tribilín traía mas de 40!!, hubieran podido meterlos todos en un set de 2 díscos (además que muchos de los cortos ya salieron en el set de guerra, y parece ser que repetirán algunos del MMinLC2)... el del club de MM la verdad no me interesa en lo más mínimo...

Salvo por el set de Mickey en B&N, estos treasures van a estar bastante desilusionantes, les va a comer el mandado los de WB con todo el montón de sets que van a sacar el mismo día

While the landmark talkie Steamboat Willie is well known, many of Mickey’s other early cartoons are little-seen today. That’s why we are pleased to complete Mickey’s filmography on DVD with this two-disc set. Walt Disney’s rivals and competitors wore themselves out trying to determine the so-called magic formula that made his cartoons so popular in the 1930s. In truth, there was no formula except Walt’s determination to make each short better than the last.

Nowhere is this better illustrated than in the short subjects seen here, originally released from 1928 to 1935. Mickey’s look and personality are still works in progress, and Walt’s animators are still refining their craft during this period. Yet there are many delightful, and memorable, moments along the way. Try to watch films like The Delivery Boy without smiling and tapping your feet.

Only in the world of animated cartoons could a mouse have a dog for a best friend. While Mickey was, of course, a humanized mouse, Pluto was the very essence of a canine companion: a dog’s dog. It was essential that Walt and his animators know and love dogs in order to bring Pluto to life, and they did. That’s why his actions, though exaggerated for comic effect, were recognizable to every dog owner in the audience. Like so many characters in the Disney stable (no pun intended) Pluto wasn’t destined for stardom when he made his debut in the 1930 short The Chain Gang. Yet there was something about that bloodhound that inspired the animators and gag writers, and before long, he was a regular part of the Mickey Mouse series. By the end of the decade, he was often the focal point of entire cartoons, even those that were officially “Mickey Mouse” releases. This collection incorporates all of Pluto’s official starring cartoons through 1946, along with a selection of his most memorable appearances in the Mickey Mouse series.

We’ve also included a biographical tribute to Walt Disney’s first canine star, a profile of his legendary animator Norm Ferguson, and even a lesson on how to draw Pluto from Disney artist Andreas Deja. ¡¿ Que ?! ¿el del Club de Mickey Mosue es sólo una semana de transmición? ahora si que No Mouse Mickey... eso es un abuso... ¿pues cuanto duraba el maldito programa ese, tres horas diarias?

No me quedé con la duda, 65 Episodios en Total, de a cinco Episodios por set, un total de 13 Sets para completar la temporada del Club, sin contar los demás programas que salieron después, Disney's Club of Mickey Mouse, The New Mickey Mouse Club, y MMC (1989)

En la sección "From the vault" viene los cortos más controversiales de Mickey... sin embargo, espero no le vayan a poner el intro de Lenny Maltin similar al set de guerra (que no se puede adelantar y te lo tienes que reventar cada que quieras ver el corto) ...

Sé que es un precio corto a pagar por tener estas gemas, pero no deja de ser irritante

Cambios en el diseño de los WDT wave 4

11/25/2004: "Walt Disney Treasures: series cut backs in new wave"

Though the content is as strong as ever, the new wave of the acclaimed Walt Disney Treasures has a number of disappointments in store for long-time series collectors. In another display of a Disney DVD line not following the style design laid out in previous editions, the new wave will definitely not feature the wraparound slips featured previously on the sets, and "signed" by Roy Disney. This is understandable given his own resignation from the company and his subsequent relationship with the Studio, but surely a similar, non-signed replacement would have kept things in check and made sure the titles lined up nicely on a collector's shelf? Another change is the continuation of the numbered certificates inside the tins, as with the last wave, instead of having actual numbered tin cases, while the back of the packages now no longer feature the disc's contents printed on the back, but rather on a postcard-sized insert stuck haphazardly on the reverse. Finally, the embossed tins themselves disappoint slightly, with the "Walt Disney" lettering indentation missing the thinner, left edge part of the D in the Disney signature. On a good note, the running times for each set are pretty healthy: 5 hours 34 minutes for Mickey Mouse In Black And White Volume 2, just over 5 hours for The Mickey Mouse Club and even the 29 shorts-light The Complete Pluto Volume 1 clocks in at a respectable 4 hours and 26 minutes. The Treasures are still set to debut on December 7 - looks for reviews to hit the DVD Toons website shortly!
